Bhutan

With a reputation as a paradise and land of mystery, Bhutan is worthy to be defined as extraordinary. Apart from the magnificence of nature enveloping the entire kingdom, Bhutan also takes pride of the strong presence of its culture and tradition. Nestled in the majestic Himalayas, the unique location of Bhutan adds to the appeal of its pristine scenery. Its breathtaking mountains, unspoilt landscapes, harmonious society and unscathed culture make Bhutan deserving of the title “The Last Shangrila.”

Bhutan’s tourism plays a major role in the kingdom’s economy. With the aim to preserve the country’s attractions and culture, over 75 tourist companies are authorized to facilitate the coming-in and getting-out of Bhutan visitors. Tourists start their adventure once they land in Paro International Airport located southwest of Bhutan, or the Bagdora Airport of the neighboring West Bengal. Route permits, issued by authorized tourist agencies, are a must when getting around Bhutan. Further, tourist agencies provide transportation and tourist guides when traveling around the kingdom.

Since it has a wealth of natural resources, trekking, biking and hiking are popular activities when exploring its wonders. One of its most famous festivals, Tshechu, happens every summer and attracts thousands of spectators. Meanwhile, tourists can have Yathra, Dappa and Bangchung as their souvenirs of the amazing Bhutan adventure. And of course, dining is always part of the experience which Bhutan surely takes pride of. Local cuisines have the dominant taste of chili, but for a Western type of dining, Thimphu and other major touristic cities have it all.

The strong charisma of Bhutan culture is undeniable. Through arranged cultural tours, visitors are given an opportune time to witness famous destinations such as the capital Thimphu, where tourism is highly-promoted, as well as Paro, Punakha, Wangdue and Jakar. It is worthy to see Taktsang Monastery, one of the world’s most prominent Buddhist site and Kurje Lhakhang, the oldest Buddhist relic of Bhutan. Dzongs strew the path of the countryside, all very interesting to see as they were erected without the use of nails and cement. The incredible architecture of dzongs, as well as its art treasures and significant past, make it worth visiting.
