Grand Canyon in northern Arizona is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is one of the most visited attractions in the USA. This massive Canyon features several distinct areas with Grand Canyon National Park being the most famous one. This same national park is divided into two parts. The North Rim is the remote section while the South Rim is more crowded thanks to its accessibility. The southwest area of Canyon is tucked in between Hualapai Indian Reservation and Havasupai Indian Reservation. While these different areas have ample tourist facilities, the national park especially in the South Rim area is the hottest tourist destination in Grand Canyon and it is equipped with all the necessary amenities to cater to millions of tourists every year.

Visiting the Grand Canyon offers an overwhelming and unforgettable experience and Theodore Roosevelt attested to this when he visited the site during his presidency. The national park was founded by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 when it was named the Grand Canyon National Monument. Presently, the park sits on 1.2 million acre land which is approximately the size of Delaware State. Today, the park receives over 6 million visitors per annum. Throughout the past decades, many authors have tried their best to come up with a description of this enormous landscape and unsurprisingly, no words seem to give the real sense of wonder and awe that tourist experience.

California Condor is the most famous animal that you can see at the park and there are many birds as well like Canyon Wrens, swallows Stellar’s Jays and hummingbirds as well as the entertaining and playful Raven. Mule Deer can commonly be seen as well as the Desert Big Horn Sheep. Reptiles in Grand Canyon are well represented by a few snakes and small lizards. While there are so many animals there, you shouldn’t feel them as it is unhealthy and others like squirrels can bite you. The Grand Canyon in South Rim offers good views and has historic buildings that attract massive crowds. On the western part is the Hermits Rest that features a snack bar and a gift shop designed by famous Mary Colter.

Hiking in Grand Canyon is always a great thing to do and offers an experience that you can’t find anywhere in the world. However, most of the hiking trails are unmaintained but make the whole activity more adventurous. Common trails are such as south Kaibab trail, Bright Angel Trail, Hermit Trail, and the Grandview Trail. Guided tours in Grand Canyon are offered by many safari companies that include sightseeing, airplane tours, and hiking.

Whitewater rafting is yet another awesome expedition that is best experienced during summer months. Flightseeing is organized in helicopters and airplanes. Other interesting activities in Grand Canyon include ranger programs such as interpretive talks, museum visits, movies, and rim walks, mule rides, bicycling, and education courses offered by Northern Arizona University and the Grand Canyon Field Institute. The canyon also has a variety of sleeping options including lodges, campgrounds, and hotels.
