With a population of more than one million people, Auckland boasts of being the largest New Zealand metropolitan area. Auckland City was formed as a result of the amalgamation of four separate cities to form the presently huge city of Auckland. This highly modern cosmopolitan city is home to about a third of the entire population in New Zealand. Auckland share similar urban planning designs with Los Angeles and these two cities are sister cities.

Auckland city has rich tourist resources and attractions like the Auckland War Memorial Museum that displays numerous collections of the significant historical importance of the wartime. Built-in 1920, the museum is a memorial for soldiers in the war and the spot for ANZAC Remembrance Day. You will excellent exhibitions of arts and crafts of Maori people and cultural performances are staged at the museum almost daily. The historical winter gardens are a stone throw away from the museum and feature impressive displays of flower beds, statues, and tropical plants. Auckland Domain is the oldest park in the city and hosts numerous sporting events especially during the weekend. If you are traveling to Auckland, the best way is to rent a car there. The New Zealand National Maritime Museum is located at the heart of Auckland and houses interesting exhibits of the country’s maritime history. The Auckland Art Gallery has the biggest collections of international and international art and crafts in the country housed in the new gallery and main gallery. The Auckland Zoo houses many exotic and native animals on 17-hectare parkland. The StarDome Observatory houses Maori archaeological sites and there is also a working farm and a playground for kids to play.

Visiting the Waitakere Ranges offers you a memorable experience as the artistic suburb is dotted with numerous cafes and art galleries.

While Auckland is generally a safe city to visit, some areas require that you are extra careful as they can be very risky at night. For instance, Karangahape Rd features so many clubs, cafes, and pubs that make the area a prime spot at night. Queen Street a shopping area that is only respectable during the daytime otherwise it is relatively unsafe at night. Other streets that you should be careful about are such as Fort Street, Vulcan Lane/ High Street, and Viaduct Harbour. When leaving Auckland, it would be a wise idea to visit Waiheke Island on your way out and taste some of the most fantastic wines as you visit the overcrowded beaches on the island.
