Costa Rica

The small South American country of Costa Rica has Panama and Nicaragua as its neighboring countries to the south and North respectively. Costa Rica has remained a hot travel destination for nature enthusiast tourists since 1980s. The well established protected areas and national parks give Costa Rica a competitive advantage. It also boasts of rich flora and fauna, world famed beaches in along Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean as well as active volcanoes which are safely visited bicaay tourists. A great number of tourists visiting Costa Rica are largely engaged in eco-tourism related activities like trekking, fauna, flora, rural visits as well as bird watching. Nevertheless, the country is still a great destination for adventure and it is listed as one of the 10 best world’s ethical destinations.

Since historical times, Costa Rica has enjoyed relative peace free from political turmoil that has largely affected its neighboring countries. Costa Rica is also listed as the world’s greenest country and also the happiest country to live in the world. The nation of Costa Rica has diverse climates, culture, landscapes, flora and fauna. Its tourism resources ranges from dry tropical forests to rain and temperate forests, to pacific and Caribbean beaches, to volcanoes to marshy lowlands and high mountains. The least visited area in the country is the Caribbean Costa Rica due to its many mosquitoes and relative isolation despite being a great destination for sea turtle seeing and whitewater rafting. Most of the people live in Central Valley with central Pacific being the most visited Costa Rica region thanks to the many beaches, national parks and accommodation facilities found here.

The first capital was Cartago before being changed to San Jose. Dominical city is well known for its natural beauty and incredible biodiversity. Other touristy cities in Costa Rica are Alajuela home to the international airport of Juan Santamaria, Heredia, Puerto Limon, Liberia, Quesada and Puntarenas. Other major destinations in Costa Rica include the Cahuita National Park, Cocos Island National Park, Chirripo National Park, and Corcovado National Park, the Arenal Volcano and other national parks and protected zones. Apart from bird watching which is actually the major activity in the country, there are other popular places to visit especially the beaches.

The main beach is Corcovado and Dominical beach offers the best nightlife scenes and the best surfing destination. The wide rivers in Costa Rica make the country a great destination for water rafting. Sport fishing is increasingly becoming very common in Costa Rica where tourists go to catch and then release the fishes back into the waters.

Surfing hotspots in Costa Rica are incredibly many and biking seems to be the order of the day especially in the big cities. Costa Rica is one of the countries that experience a large number of tourists and its relative security and safety makes it a worthwhile place to visit. Traffic in the big cities can be dangerous and you need to be careful and as always, using common sense will be of great advantage to you.
